Once upon a time in the anthropocene: myths, legends, and futurity in Turkish climate fiction

چکیده

Myths and legends in climate fiction are often studied with reference to fantasy magical realism; yet the relationship between two forms remains understudied. This article examines use of both as they overlap Turkish address multiscalar complexities change offer imaginaries multispecies solidarity. Through close readings Ayşegül Yalvaç’s Bir İstanbul Efsanesi (2022; An Istanbul Legend) Oya Baydar’s Köpekli Çocuklar Gecesi (2019; Night Children-with-Dogs), I demonstrate how texts adopt a feminist ethics care create speculative dramatizing cofutures making. argue that legend serves three major functions: It challenges universalizing, apocalyptical, anthropocentric Anthropocene discourses by depicting localized histories collective action ironizes engendering messianic figures. Lastly, reveals possibilities cosmopolitics while exposing limits utopian cosmopolitanisms.
